Bryan, Francis Theodore

Francis Theodore Bryan (1823-1917) of Raleigh, NC, was the son of Mary Williams Shepard (1802-1881) and John Herritage (1798-1870) Bryan. Francis entered the University in 1838, joined the Philanthropic Society, and graduated with first honors in 1842. He received the MA in 1845. A graduate of West Point, he became an engineer and surveyor and served as an aide to General John E. Wool (1784-1869) in the Mexican War. He settled in St. Louis, MO.
